How to Make Yoga Pants at Home


For the modern woman, yoga is an essential exercise to help with the stresses of school, work or children. Yoga is an ancient exercise that revitalizes your physical and mental state.

DIY Yoga PantsIt is therefore important to have the right pants for yoga. Yoga pants should not be tight. They should be lightweight and allow room to stretch and also be breathable so as to allow sweating. If you love yoga and need an extra pair of yoga pants, or you like do it yourself projects, then here are the steps to make your own yoga pants! It’s just this simple!

Things you will need

  • Fabric
  • A pair of fitting yoga pants
  • Sewing machine
  • Measuring tape
  • Marking chalk
  • Scissors

Create Yoga Pants

Instructions

Step 1

Select a pair of yoga pants that you already have and fits you perfectly to use as your guide. We will use its measurements to create another pair of yoga pants.

Step 2

Select the fabric that you will use to make your new pair of yoga pants. You can use material you already have in your home such as old t-shirts. Use material that is of the same type as your yoga pants. The best material is cotton or synthetic fabrics.  But make sure the material is not see-through!

Step 3

Wash the fabric and yoga pants and iron. This is to prevent having to wash your new yoga pants immediately after sewing them up as they will shrink.

Step 4

Turn your yoga pants inside out so as to clearly see the seams. Stick one of the pants’ legs inside the other leg of the yoga pants.

Step 5

Fold your fabric in half so you have two layers and place it on a table. Place the folded pants onto the folded fabric. Using marking chalk, trace the front outline of the pants onto the fabric.

Step 6

Cut out the tracing so you have so that you have two front pieces.

Step 7

Flip over your pants and place it on another section of the fabric. Trace this back section of the pants onto the fabric using marking chalk. Cut out your tracings so you have two back pieces.

Step 8

Sew the top right corners of the two front pieces together and also sew the top right corners of the two back pieces together. You will now have one front piece and one back piece.

Step 9

Place the front piece on top of the back piece and sew the inseams together. Then, sew the outer seams together.

 

Waistband

You will also need a waistband to keep your new yoga pants in place.

  1. Using a tape measure, measure the waist size of the new yoga pants
  2. Divide the number by two and add 2 inches. This will be the length of your waistband.
  3. Cut out this length of material from fabric that stretches. Cut out the height of the waistband according to your preference.
  4. Sew the waistband into the pant’s edges
  5. Finish the hemming of your new yoga pants.
  6. It’s just that simple

Tip:

You can use stencil to create unique shapes or lettering on your new yoga pants. Would it just be lovely to stencil your name on your yoga pants?
