Why Do Yoga Anyway

The Real Purpose of Yoga

Why do Yoga?

While the explosion of technology, medical advancement, and cultural evolution are worth noting, some things just cannot be improved.  Take yoga, for instance.  Over 5,000 years of spiritual healing remains as liberating today as when first developed in India.  There are several reasons why yoga is gaining popularity in countries throughout the world.  Happiness, better health, self-esteem, and finding a common bond with the world, are some of the reasons why yoga users are so dedicated.

Why is the Value of Yoga so Hard to Believe?

Misconceptions turn to doubt when there is a lack of understanding.  Have you ever looked at a person walking down the street and immediately formed an opinion?  The same principal applies to not understanding yoga.  Humble beginnings in the Far East make it difficult for Westerners to perceive anything other than a different type of culture in comparison of our own lives.  Opening our minds to new and exciting practices is the first step in believing that there are other fascinating options outside of our own circle that can make a dramatic difference in discovering peace from within.

What to Expect from Enlightenment

If you have ever been in a bad mood, been anxious and stressed, or have experienced headaches and stiff muscles, introducing yoga could be for you.  Enlightenment is nothing more than being able to grasp the bigger picture of life and not just the mundane motions of everyday life.  You will stop focusing on how much money you have to spend, what are you going to fix for dinner, or how you can explain an overdue report.  These thoughts will never cease to be necessary, but they will seem more manageable and not become overwhelming.

Here are a few of the benefits that yoga delivers to those that are tired of worry, constant unimportant thoughts, and pains that never seem to fade.  This, my friend is the meaning of enlightenment:

  • Improved circulation
  • Stimulation of the immune system
  • Higher self esteem
  • A desire to be creative
  • Improved concentration
  • Lower tension and stress
  • Feel stronger, have better muscle tone and lose weight
  • Find the calm you have always wished for

Exercise, Posture, and Breathing

After deciding that yoga could be the answer to  relieving stress, helping with chronic fatigue, lowering blood pressure, or a multitude of other physical and mental conditions, the work must begin.  You don't just wake up one morning, grab your yoga mat and find all your ills have been addressed.  It is a mindset, a process, and a willingness to forget about self-absorption.  The tools are important, such as having a quiet area for meditation, and wearing comfortable clothes.  Supplex fiber is the perfect material for breathing exercises and meditation.  The porous nature allows the body to move without feeling constrained or uncomfortable. Perhaps a fast-paced society was necessary to seek out the benefits of yoga.  Whatever the reason, embrace it with a passion and give it a try.  Prepare yourself for the journey, stay focused on your goal, and you will find yourself looking forward to clearing your mind, opening channels to your body, and understanding the world by becoming one with the big picture.
